The Sports Ministry is keen to bring Formula 1 back to the Buddh International Circuit in the near future as it has already opened talks to revive the track. Mandaviya has already visited the circuit and held talks with officials in this regard.
The track, popularly known as the BIC held races for three seasons from 2011 to 2013 before being dropped from the calendar due to tax and bureaucratic issues. “The minister went to see the F1 track last week and held discussions. He has told that the track should be reused and will do everything to revive it,” a Sports Ministry source said.
Dr Mandaviya said the country has denied the assertions that India was not ready to host big international events amidst growing criticism.
“India has hosted nearly 45 international competitions across over 20 disciplines in the last one year. This shows India’s preparedness,” he said.
