The Minnesota Twins made multiple moves on Tuesday. According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, Minnesota signed right-handed pitcher Eduardo Salazar to a minor league contract. The Twins later announced their waiver claim of right-handed pitcher Jackson Kowar from the Seattle Mariners. The Kowar addition now has the Twins’ 40-man roster sitting at exactly 40 players.

Neither of these roster additions necessarily jump off the page. With that being said, Minnesota was able to add valuable pitching depth with these moves.

Salazar, 27, has previously spent time with the Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals at the big league level. He struggled across 30 relief outings in 2025 with the Nationals, pitching to an 8.38 ERA.

In 2024, though, he recorded a 2.96 ERA in 25 appearances. Salazar has displayed the ability to find success in MLB. Perhaps a fresh start with the Twins will lead to a bounce back performance.

Kowar, 29, has pitched at the MLB level with the Kansas City Royals and Mariners. In 2025, Kowar turned in a 4.24 ERA across 15 outings with Seattle.

The relief pitcher has potential, but he has yet to figure things out at the big league level. 2025 was his best season, and he holds a career ERA of 8.21. The Twins are hoping that he can break out sooner rather than later.

Salazar and Kowar are not going to make or break Minnesota’s 2026 campaign. They both represent low risk additions, though. If either of them breaks out/bounces back, they could end up making a significant impact in the Twins’ bullpen.

Pitchers and catchers are just a week away from reporting for spring training. The Twins have had a quiet offseason for the most part. They have made a few moves — such as signing Josh Bell and Victor Caratini — but Minnesota’s overall roster will look quite similar to the 2025 squad.

The chances of the Twins making any other notable additions ahead of spring training are slim. Most of the big name free agents are off the market, while the Twins have not been consistently linked to star players in trade rumors. It seems as if Minnesota is prepared to enter the 2026 campaign with the current roster.

The Twins could continue to add overlooked players for depth purposes, however.
