Warm Hearts, Busy Minds: February at Stettler Public Library
By Rhonda O’Neill
February may be short, but it’s packed with reasons to get out of the cold and into Stettler’s coziest spot. Here’s what’s coming up at your library as we roll into the heart of winter.
Little ones and their grownups are invited to Read and Rhyme, running Fridays, Tuesdays and Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. This popular program is perfect for children ages 0-5 and their parents or caregivers. We read stories, sing songs, play games and get those wiggles out while enjoying time together at the library.
Gamers, mark your calendars. On Feb. 7 at 1 p.m., join us for Smash Bros with Shaunzy. Choose your main, test your skills and duke it out with fellow players in a fun, friendly tournament atmosphere.
Ever wish your library card worked harder for you?
On Feb. 10, join us for the 24/7 Library and learn how to access newspapers, magazines and books for free online with your library membership. Bring your device, and we’ll walk you through downloading apps, logging in and making the most of digital resources.
Al-Anon meets Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. If you are troubled by someone else’s alcohol use, you are not alone. Join us for support and understanding in a confidential, welcoming space.
Minds in Motion continues Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. Designed by the Alzheimer Society, this program offers light exercise, snacks and games for people experiencing cognitive decline and their caregivers. Laughter abounds, and connections are made.
It’s not too late to grab a copy of Lula Dean’s Little Library of Banned Books and join Novel Bites, our book club that meets monthly at local restaurants. This month we’re heading to Hackers on Feb. 11. Guests are responsible for their own refreshments, and pre-registration is required.
Calling all creatives. Art Club (18+) meets Thursday nights at 6 p.m. Bring your current project and supplies and enjoy working alongside other local artists, sharing ideas and inspiration.
For teens ages 13 and up, Dungeons & Dragons runs Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. Teens and tweens ages 10+ can join Teen Scene on Wednesdays. On Feb. 11, we’re watching “The Fault in Our Stars”, an emotional favourite that is sure to spark conversation.
Looking ahead to Family Day on Feb. 16, the library will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. We’re excited to host the Kompany Family Theatre production of “Home Sweet Home”, paired with a giant Candyland game in the library. The building will be buzzing with free fun all day, including a pancake breakfast, swimming, skating and hot dogs at lunch.
And don’t forget Come for a Byte, running next on Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. We still have space available. Bring your device and your questions as we look at navigating technology and staying safe online. This free program runs until 1:30 p.m. and includes lunch! Call 403-742-2292 to register.
