Nova Scotia RCMP have arrested three youths in connection to a sexual assault investigation related to alleged hazing incidents that involved a hockey team in the Truro area.

On Friday, a youth reported being assaulted during a team gathering in Colchester County in October 2025.

In a news release Thursday, police say an investigation began immediately, which involved getting statements from multiple witnesses. During the investigation, police determined offences had occurred at other locations in Nova Scotia and involved other victims and witnesses.

Staff Sgt. Marc Rose, district commander of Colchester County District RCMP, confirmed that police have identified at least three victims.

“There’s direct and indirect effects. If you look at the entire hockey team and the community, I think this is going to cause trauma and harm to a lot of people, this incident, so we’re just trying to help whoever we can here,” Rose said in an interview.

RCMP say three youths were arrested on Tuesday. Each is facing a charge of sexual assault with a weapon.

One of the youths is also facing charges of sexual assault and assault with a weapon, and another is also facing charges of sexual assault and assault with choking.

Rose said the investigation is ongoing and further charges could be laid.

In a statement from Hockey Nova Scotia, executive director Mike Field said the youth team in the Truro area has been suspended during the investigation.

Field said the governing body was notified Friday of a maltreatment allegation involving a minor. It was immediately reported to RCMP and Hockey Canada’s Independent Third Party, which administers complaints.

“As this process is ongoing, and to protect the privacy of those involved, we are unable to provide further details at this time,” Field said in the statement.

“The safety of our members and our community is our top priority.”

Police say there may be other victims

Police believe there may be other victims, including some who reside outside Colchester County.

In the news release, Rose said he understands it may be difficult for victims to come forward and disclose what happened to them, but they can do so “safely and at their own pace.”

“We’ll help them, we’ll listen to them, we’ll help them in the criminal justice process if required, or we’ll just get them resources and help through victim services and counselling,” Rose told CBC News.

“Our biggest concern is the victims and making sure we can mitigate the harm from this trauma.”

Anyone with information that would be helpful to the investigation is asked to call Colchester County District RCMP.
