The Langley RCMP says that a 47-year-old motorcyclist died on Sunday after losing control in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 1.

Mounties say the man riding his motorcycle was travelling westbound between 264th and 248th streets around 8:30 p.m. before crashing into a semi-trailer truck moving in the same direction.

The BC Highway Patrol says several units from the Langley RCMP, the BC Emergency Health Services, and the Township of Langley Fire Department attended the scene.

Police say, despite life-saving efforts, the 47-year-old man died at the scene.

“Given the scope of our investigation and loss of life, we have to ensure that we conduct a very thorough investigation,” RCMP Sgt. Zainal Sharum said.

He says the highway was very busy at the time of the fatal crash.

“Lots of witnesses in the area, they are all cooperating with us,” Sharum explained.

And one of those cooperating was the driver of the Semi-trailer truck, who was not physically injured.

“However, we will be looking at all aspects of it, so we are looking for witnesses who may not have spoken to investigators,” Sharum said.

Police are also asking witnesses for available dashcam footage.

The rescue efforts and investigation shut down a part of the highway for more than six hours.

Mounties are not yet releasing the name of the deceased.

Speed is believed to be a factor.
