Former Maple Leafs and NCAA standout forward Jimmy Vesey is looking to continue his hockey career outside of the NHL with an overseas opportunity.
Jimmy Vesey was one of the more sought after NCAA free agents in 2016. He claimed the Hobey Baker Award as the best collegiate player and soon thereafter rebuffed the Nashville Predators for greener pastures.
Originally drafted by the Nashville in the third round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Vesey signed with the New York Rangers. He made his highly anticipated rookie debut in 2016-17, where he tallied 16 goals and 27 points.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to live up to the hype as he recorded 28 points in 2017-18 and career-high 35 points in 2019-20, before being traded to the Buffalo Sabres.
After one season in Buffalo, he made pit stops in Toronto, Vancouver, New Jersey, and Colorado, as well as making a return to the Rangers for 2 and a half seasons between 2022 and 2025.
He signed with the Maple Leafs as a free agent in 2020, where he tallied 5 goals and 7 points in 30 games before being placed on waivers and subsequently claimed by the Vancouver Canucks.,
Vesey finished off the 2024-25 season with 5 goals and 8 points in 43 games split between the Rangers and the Avalanche. In 626 NHL games, Vesey recorded 101 goals and 194 points as he now sets his sights on Switzerland.
The 32-year-old signed a deal with Geneve-Servette from the National League in Switzerland, who finished 12th out 14 teams in 2024-25 with a 17-7-6-22 record.
He was brilliant in his final 2 years with Harvard University, where he tallied 56 goals and 104 points in 70 games en route to the Hobey Baker. So, perhaps a change of scenery is what the Massachusetts native needs at this point in his career to return to form.
