Pearce Jr. is in trouble.

Over the weekend, one of the biggest off-field stories in sports emerged when Atlanta Falcons rookie linebacker James Pearce Jr. was arrested following an alleged domestic incident involving WNBA star Rickea Jackson. Pearce’s future, both in the NFL and beyond, now faces serious uncertainty as legal proceedings start to unfold, and Jackson has taken a big step by making her intentions clear regarding the case.
According to The Spun, Pearce, who was selected by the Falcons in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, had an outstanding debut season. As a rookie pass rusher, he quickly became a force on the field, recording 10.5 sacks and finishing third in voting for the Defensive Rookie of the Year. Teammates and fans alike saw him as a cornerstone of the Falcons’ defense. But his recent legal troubles have cast a long shadow over what had been a promising start to his professional career.
According to arrest reports, Pearce was taken into custody near Miami after a confrontation with Jackson. The dispute began, according to public filings, when Jackson attempted to drive toward the Doral Police Department amid a domestic situation. Police say Pearce followed her vehicle and, at various points, made contact with it. Law enforcement officials attempted to intervene, and in the course of trying to evade the police, Pearce allegedly hit an officer with his vehicle before crashing and being taken into custody.
Pearce Jr.’s Career Is In Jeopardy
Pearce was booked on a number of felony counts, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated stalking, fleeing from law enforcement, and aggravated battery against a law enforcement officer, along with resisting arrest without violence, which is a misdemeanor. After appearing before a judge, a bond of roughly $20,500 was set, and Pearce was released under a pretrial order prohibiting him from having any contact with Jackson.
The legal document filed by Jackson’s lawyers in Miami-Dade County goes further than simply recounting the incident. It makes clear that she is prepared to play an active role in the prosecution if the case reaches trial.
For his part, Pearce and his legal team have signaled that he will fight the allegations. According to earlier reports, his lawyers issued a statement emphasizing his position that the accusations do not tell the whole story, saying “Mr. Pearce maintains his innocence and urges the public to understand that while allegations have the power to shape a narrative, that it is hardly the full, complete story.” They also stated their intention to vigorously defend him as the process continues.
The fallout from this arrest has already been felt within professional sports circles. The Falcons organization has acknowledged the incident but has limited public comment, saying only that they are gathering information as the legal process moves forward. Meanwhile, the NFL has indicated the situation will be reviewed under the league’s personal conduct policy, a standard practice for any player facing serious legal trouble.
Jackson, who was the fourth overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft and plays forward for the Los Angeles Sparks, has not publicly discussed the incident herself. But by filing the paperwork indicating her readiness to testify, she has made it clear that she intends to be part of the fight in court. This development could have far-reaching implications for Pearce’s career.
If the case goes to trial and his testimony becomes part of the official record, the NFL and his team will face tough decisions about his future in professional football.
