OTTAWA – The Canadian Construction Association (CCA) is encouraging members to fill out a questionnaire being conducted by Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada (HICC) that aims to capture real-world insights on the opportunities, challenges and barriers associated with the Buy Canadian Policy.
Dec. 16, 2025, the Buy Canadian Policy officially came into effect.
Under the overarching policy framework, the following policies now apply:
The Policy on Prioritizing Canadian Suppliers and Canadian Content in Strategic Federal Procurements outlines the federal government’s commitment to favouring Canadian suppliers and content for major strategic purchases for procurements valued at $25 million or more. By spring 2026, the government will expand this to $5 million or more.
The Policy on Prioritizing Canadian Materials in Federal Procurement establishes the framework for sourcing Canadian aluminum, steel and wood for major construction and defence contracts for any project valued at $25 million or more, where material requirements worth at least $250,000 will be required to be Canadian-sourced.
“CCA has been working with the federal government on this issue for several months and is seeking your feedback to help guide our ongoing discussions,” a notice from the association reads. “Your input will ensure that our work accurately incorporates and reflects industry experience and supply chain realities.”
If you have insights, whether from current projects or anticipated challenges that will impact future projects, the association is urging you to make voice heard.
The deadline is March 31 and all questions are optional.
