The deal is for $22 million, the same value as the qualifying offer that Gallen initially rejected, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal. There is $14 million of deferred money, Rosenthal added.
Gallen posted a 4.83 ERA over 33 starts in 2025 with 175 strikeouts over 192 innings atop the Diamondbacks rotation.
He spent parts of the last seven seasons in Arizona after he was acquired in July of 2019 from the Miami Marlins. Gallen was drafted 106th overall in 2016 by the St. Louis Cardinals before he was traded to the Marlins in exchange for Marcell Ozuna in December of 2017.
The 30-year-old finished third in NL Cy Young award voting in 2023 after heading a Diamondbacks rotation that surprised the baseball world by reaching the World Series before falling to the Texas Rangers.
Gallen has eclipsed 121 innings and 139 strikeouts in each of the past five seasons and will remain a veteran presence in Arizona’s rotation.
