Gary Player can’t take his grandkids to play Augusta National: “I accept it with sadness.”

Playing Augusta National is next to impossible, even if you have three Green Jackets hanging in your closet—just ask Gary Player.

Player has been trying to get a round in at the home of the Masters with three of his grandchildren, but he’s had no luck getting on the tee sheet.

“My grandsons are dying to know about their grandfather’s episodes on that golf course,” Player said. “All the golf courses that have hosted The Open, the U.S. Open and the PGA would oblige, but they won’t do it at Augusta. It is just this current management there, but these are the times we live in and I accept it, but I accept it with sadness.”

Unlike Jack Nicklaus and the late Arnold Palmer, Player isn’t a member at Augusta, and you have to be a member to invite a guest. Even tour players can’t be out there unless they’re with a Green Jacket.

But when it comes to Player, the situation is a little more complicated.

His son, Wayne, is banned from the property after he used the Honorary Starters Ceremony to push golf balls in 2021.

Player has also said on several occasions that the Masters ranks fourth out of the four major championships.

“When I go there I feel I am walking onto a golf course in Heaven,” Player said. “I tread very carefully and I love Augusta so much but I don’t like all the rules.”
