The Atlanta Braves are hoping to have a bounce-back year in 2026 after finishing 76-86 and fourth in the NL East and missing the postseason last season.

One of the biggest issues for the team during the 2025 season was the lack of bullpen depth, combined with lackluster performance for the most part from their starters, and just when the Braves looked to solve the issue a bit with another good starter pitcher from a young prospect, they got the worst news imaginable.
Hurston Waldrep experienced discomfort in his arm while pitching during live batting practice. On Sunday, an MRI revealed “loose bodies” in the right elbow, and a procedure is likely needed to address the injury.

Obviously, losing a starting pitcher at any point in the season is never good, but right before spring training games begin has to be one of the most unfortunate times for that to happen.
On the bright side of things, the MRI also revealed there is no ligament damage to the right-hand pitcher.
Waldrep, 23, was impressive last season, collecting 55 strikeouts, on a 2.88 ERA, while also finishing with a 6-1 record after appearing in ten games and 56 innings pitched.

This was a major improvement for the young prodigy after only appearing in two games during his rookie season, allowing eight walks and only retiring three batters while recording an abysmal 16.71 ERA.
With that news, the Braves will have to rely on their veteran standouts, such as Chris Sale and Spencer Strider, along with Reynaldo Lopez and Grant Holmes, as they wait and see just how much time Waldrep will miss.
