For the last little while, Yellowknife musicians have felt as though the city’s scene was picking up. Maybe this proves it.
The city now has a zine.
Christopher McMillan says his Northern Static zine – which recently debuted “issue zero” – is “something that came out of sleepless nights and just me wanting to contribute to the music scene here in Yellowknife, showcasing new bands, old bands, bringing out some youth groups as well.”

He recognizes zines are “old school.”
Even some people in their thirties at this month’s Still Dark Festival didn’t understand the term, which describes a small-circulation and self-published booklet usually dedicated to a specific topic or scene.
McMillian says he put more than 100 hours into the opening issue.
