Blake Chorney notched his sixth goal of the season for the Vancouver Giants as they fell 3-1 to Seattle Thunderbirds Monday afternoon, Feb. 16 before an audience of 4,516 at the Langley Events Centre.

Giants opened the scoring midway through the second period before the Thunderbirds tied the game just over eight minutes later.

Seattle scored the eventual game-winning goal with 11:58 left in the third period on a power play and then hit the empty net with less than one minute to go in the contest.

After 20 scoreless minutes, Chorney scored off a rebound from Jakob Oreskovic in front of the Seattle net to give Vancouver a 1-0 lead.

He was named second star of the game.

Seattle then tied the game with only 2:11 left in the middle frame when Simon Lovsin scored his first of two off a pass from Noah Kosick.

Lovsin got the game winner to make it 2-1 for the visitors with his second of the game, scoring off a one-timer from the left face-off circle on a Seattle power play following a pass from Coster Dunn.

Vancouver was handed four minor penalties in the third period alone, including two in the final minutes, leading to an empty net goal with 45 seconds remaining to give the Thunderbirds the 3-1 victory.

Seattle outshot Vancouver 36-25.

Vancouver drops to 20-32-1-2 (43 points), while Seattle improves to 22-23-4-3 (51 points).

Giants are at the bottom of the rankings for the 12-team Western Conference. Seattle is 10th.

Next, Giants are back on the road on Friday, Feb. 20 against the sixth-ranked Spokane Chiefs, before hosting the number-seven ranked Portland Winterhawks on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. at LEC.
