Fitness podcaster John Paton wears a Garmin sports watch whenever he runs to track his pace, distance and heart rate. He also uses his Garmin to track his daily steps and wears an Oura ring at night to track his resting heart rate, nocturnal heart rate variability and his total time in bed.
He adds even more rigorous data to these daily metrics by getting a DEXA scan every six months to measure his lean muscle mass and a VO₂ max test once a year to assess his aerobic fitness and determine how efficiently he can use fat as a fuel source.
