Calgary police have arrested and charged a man who last Thursday threw a bag of suspected cocaine out his vehicle’s window before he was pulled over for a traffic stop.

At about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, an officer patrolling near the Chinook LRT station saw a 2003 Toyota 4Runner with an obscured licence plate, the Calgary Police Service said Tuesday.

After initiating a traffic stop, the officer saw the driver throw an item out a window.

The item, a white shopping bag, was collected and found to contain 250.6 grams of suspected cocaine, with an approximate street value of $25,060, police said. 

The driver was arrested, and police searched both the driver and his vehicle. In the vehicle, police found 112.5 grams of suspected fentanyl,  with an approximate street value of $11,270.

Leslie Ross Szentmiklossy, 50, has been charged with one count of possession of opioids for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. He has a court appearance scheduled for Feb. 25.
