There’s some new champions in town.

Earl Marriott’s junior girls basketball team won the South Fraser Championships Thursday (Feb. 12), when the regional zone playoffs were held.

The EMS Mariners squad went 3-0 in the championship tournament, which are the playoffs for eight schools from Delta, Richmond and Surrey,

Coached by Neil Brown and Linda Forsyth, the team defeated Semiahmoo Secondary by a score of 62-43 in the South Fraser Finals on Feb. 12 at Steveston-London Secondary to become the 2026 South Fraser Champions, EMS junior girls basketball manager Matt Seguin noted in an email.

The Mariners squad also beat Richmond Secondary 77-26 in their first game, and won vs. Guildford Park 54-24 in a semi-final matchup.

“The girls have put in a tremendous amount of time into improving their skill set this past year,” Brown said. “This tournament win is the result of their commitment. We are on a five-year journey. This is only year two. Stay tuned for more successes.”

EMS’ Iva Crepjnak was named Tournament MVP and Naya Seguin was named First Team All-Star.

Semiahmoo, third-place finishers Holy Cross and Seaquam players also received All-Star awards, with the top three teams qualifying for the 2026 junior girls basketball provincials.
