A Calgary spot known for its Thai-style desserts has closed its doors, and we already have word of its replacement.

Thai dessert spot Kati Kati has closed after less than a year in business. The Chinatown outpost was known for its sweet treats such as decadent stacked toasts and Bingsu, which used classic Thai ingredients such as coconut milk, pandan, and tropical fruit.

While we can mourn the loss of Kati Kati, we now have word of the new concept taking over the space. Haiway Street, a new eatery focusing on the flavours of Northern Vietnam, will soon be opening its doors in the Chinatown location.

Named after the restaurant’s chef, Chef Hai, the new spot aims to bring the “flavours of Northern Vietnam to Calgary with clarity and purpose.”

While not much on the menu has been revealed just yet, expect Haiway Street’s takes on the Vietnamese dishes we know and love, such as pho and banh mi. To wash it down, the restaurant will also have a large drinks menu covering everything from matcha and Viet coffee to blended drinks and more.

While Haiway Street has yet to announce an official opening date, we’re excited to see what’s to come.
