August 14, 1939 – February 5, 2026

Maurine Fay Garbauski passed away on February 5, 2026, in Surrey, British Columbia, at age 86. She fought a courageous six-year battle with cancer, always maintaining the same bright spirit that defined her life. Daughter of Lee and Fay Clifton, Maurine was born in Lethbridge Alberta. She grew up in Magrath and later in Vancouver. On May 3, 1959, she married Joseph Garbauski. They lived in Vancouver and Burnaby before settling into their Surrey home in 1978.

Maurine’s career spanned many years of public service, working in Administration at Oakalla Prison Farm, the Vancouver Crown Counsel Office, Surrey Unified Family Court, Sheriff’s Services and finally the judiciary. No matter where she worked, she gained the respect of professionals and colleagues and made many friends.

After 50 years of marriage, her husband Joe passed November 30, 2009. Maurine continued to embrace life with her trademark “up for anything” spirit. She found a community of friends at the local pool where she loved to go for Aquafit, and post workout coffee chats. She enjoyed adventures, big or small, shared with her friends and family.

Some of Joe and Moe’s most treasured memories were made while camping and fishing together throughout BC. Their ashes will be reunited and spread at their favourite lake.

Maurine’s legacy lives on through her three children: Lyle (Lani), Joan (Alec), and Reg (Corinne). She was the grandmother of Drew, Monica, and Tanya, and a great-grandmother. She is also survived by her brothers, Brent (Diane) and George.

You will be missed.
