Police have charged a Mississauga man following a hit-and-run crash that left a woman dead last month.

The fatal collision happened on Jan. 14 while a female pedestrian was crossing at the crosswalk on Bristol Road West at Loonlake Avenue in Mississauga, Peel Regional Police say.

That’s when the female victim in her 20s was struck by the driver of a black SUV.

Investigators say the driver fled the scene without providing assistance to the woman.

The woman was rushed to a trauma centre where she died from her injuries, police say. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed.

After an investigation, police say a 26-year-old man from Mississauga was arrested on Wednesday.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton, police say.
