Brampton’s Danilo Djuricic will be playing for his hometown team after being signed by the Honey Badgers for the 2026 season.

A Brampton native who got his start in professional basketball playing two seasons with Basket Brno in Czechia, Djuricic has been signed by the Brampton Honey Badgers for the 2026 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season.

“Coming home to play the sport I love is a dream come true,” he said in a release.

While Djuricic spent the last four years with the Scarborough Shooting Stars and won a championship with the organization in 2023, he said putting on a Brampton jersey “and playing in front of my family and friends is going to be an amazing feeling.”

Djuricic scored in double figures on three occasions in the 2025 season, including a 17-point outburst versus the Ottawa BlackJacks. He’s played 119 games as a professional since 2021, averaging 4.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 13.4 minutes, the Honey Badgers say.

After a testicular cancer diagnosis at 24 years old, the Brampton native underwent surgery and sat out part of the Shooting Stars’ 2023 season. He returned in 2024 and founded The 40 Year Plan – an organization designed to help student-athletes and professionals build a foundation for lifelong achievement.

Honey Badgers Assistant General Manager John Ross says Djuricic “is going to be an impact player for us on the court and in the locker room.”

“We are thrilled to add a player of his calibre and character to the franchise,” Ross said in a release. He is an inspiration who will be both a valuable contributor for the Honey Badgers and the Brampton community.”

Djuricic was also a member of Canada’s Gold medal-winning 2017 U19 FIBA World Championship team.

Honey Badgers General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Jermaine Anderson said Djuricic “embodies what it means to sacrifice for a common goal” on the court.

“His unselfishness, experience, and leadership will be invaluable to our team and we’re excited to welcome him to the Honey Badger family,” Anderson says.

The team has also announced Alex Cerda has signed on as the new head coach, bringing “10 years of NBA experience” to the Brampton club. Cerda spent two seasons as an assistant video coordinator with the Los Angeles Clippers.
