Americans may not feel welcome in all countries these days. This was evident even in Milan, Italy, where there were anti-ICE protests.

Given all the travel uncertainties, some destinations are reaching out to the United States, inviting them back in.

VisitDenmark sent out 6,000 emails to U.S. tour operators, encouraging travel to the country despite recent political tension.

The email reads, “First and foremost, travelers are welcome in Denmark. At this time, there is no indication that the situation has affected travel safety, visitor experience, or tourism operations in Denmark. This is based on our regular conversations with the travel industry and recent travel reporting.”

“While some American travelers have asked whether they remain welcome, the answer is a clear yes. No hatred toward Americans.”

The gesture has caused positive reactions among Americans. Nonetheless, there are still destinations Americans have scaled back on due to political tension. Among them is a hotspot in Canada, one Americans have loved to visit over the years.

Here’s a closer look at the decrease and where Americans are headed instead.

Americans Have Decreased Travel To Montreal Despite Its Previous Popularity

Prior to last summer, it was expected that U.S. visitors would decrease travel to Montreal, a destination Americans had long considered a coveted destination.

According to CBC News, as predicted, Americans decreased their visits to Montreal throughout last year.

The news outlet writes, “U.S. visits dipped five per cent over the year.”

Americans are usually lured to Montreal by various events, including the Formula 1 Grand Prix, which continues to boost the city’s tourism sector year after year.

Despite the downturn in U.S. visitors, Montreal was still able to bring 12 million travelers to the city in 2025. This was a 7.3% increase compared to the year prior.

Domestic travelers made up for a big chunk of the loss of U.S. travelers, with an increase of 10%. Montreal also saw a record-breaking year for travelers from France, with 470,000 visitors.

Although Americans decreased travel to Montreal, U.S. airlines still see the importance of maintaining flights to Quebec. American Airlines added a new summer service between New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport and Quebec City.

Additionally, American Airlines was also on trend, adding a new flight to Calgary, Alberta.

U.S. Visitors Increased Visits To Alberta With An Unexpected Surge

Unlike the other Canadian provinces, Alberta saw an unexpected surge in U.S. visitors. Alberta was one of the only major provinces to see an increase in U.S. travelers last year, posting growth of 5%.

On the flip side, Canada saw a 6% decrease in U.S. visitors.

Andrew Boitchenko, Minister of Tourism and Sport, spoke about Alberta’s remarkable tourism growth last year.

“Nearly two years after the launch of Alberta’s Higher Ground tourism sector strategy, we are continuing to see significant growth. Investing in tourism boosts our economy, by supporting thousands of jobs, attracting new investment, and creating opportunities for communities across the province. We will continue to build on this momentum and ensure Alberta remains the best place to live, work, visit, and play.”

Alberta’s Notable Tourism Numbers In 2025:

-“Alberta has once again outperformed its previous revenue record, reaching $15.2 billion in visitor spend in 2025.”

-“Alberta’s visitor economy grew by more than six per cent*, outperforming the national average of approximately four per cent.”

-“Alberta was the only major province to see growth in overseas arrivals in 2025, posting three per cent growth while Canada saw a negative two per cent growth.”

Travel Alberta adds that tourism should continue to grow in the province, with its continued winter tourism investment.

U.S. travelers seem to agree with the recent surge in Alberta, speaking glowingly of their experiences at tourist attractions like Banff.

Alberta is drawing positive reviews among U.S. travelers.

Just a few months ago, on Reddit, a traveler from California spoke glowingly about their experience in Alberta.

The traveler said, “Just wrapped up my first visit to Canada as a Californian. And I kid you not, after all my travels, Banff is the most beautiful place I have ever been. Never did visiting Calgary ever crossed my mind. You tend to only hear about Vancouver or Toronto or Montreal when Canada is mentioned. And so I always thought I would see those places first.”

The traveler added that they plan on revisiting the Canadian province in the future.

“We loved the atmosphere, the friendliness of the locals, the food (buffalo chicken poutine is now one of my newly found favorites), and the beauty of the land.”

“I miss it already. I vow to return one day to see Jasper, Kootenay, Edmonton, Yoho, and more. So thank you Alberta for such a an unforgettable experience, and now being one of my most favorite places in the world!”

A popular destination for U.S. travelers and one that may increase even further this year.
