A 26-year-old man is dead after being shot in Brampton and another man is in custody, police say.

The shooting happened on Friday in a home in the area of Dartford Road and Balmoral Drive, according to Const. Tyler Bell-Morena of Peel Regional Police. Officers were called to the address for calls about shots fired shortly after 5:30 p.m.

When police arrived, they found a Brampton man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man was arrested and is believed to be the only suspect, Bell-Morena said.

The 37-year-old accused man and the victim were known to one another, Cst. Taylor Halfyard said at a news conference Saturday. He said the incident was isolated.

Bell-Morena had said police suspected the two men were related.

Someone inside the home called 911, he added.

Bell-Morena said residents in the area should expect a heavy police presence overnight Friday.
