The shovels may not get much of a break, with more snowfall forecast for Winnipeg and communities across southern Manitoba on Friday.
“We have a lingering trough from a system that moved through the northern U.S. states over the past couple days that’s going to be parked over southern Manitoba through the day,” says Rose Carlsen, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada (EC).Â
Earlier in the week, all of southern Manitoba was under a snowfall warning. The accumulation was quite a bit less than expected, especially for Winnipeg, which ended up getting roughly 4 cm of snow. Parts of western Manitoba received between 15 and 25 cm.Â
“We’re expecting this light snow to continue throughout the day and start to taper off this evening and into the overnight periods.”
While the snow is expected to be present over southern Manitoba, it won’t be enough to cause a snowfall warning.Â
“We’re not expecting a ton of accumulation with it. Maybe a couple of centimetres.”
Most of the week, the area had much milder weather than normal, hovering around zero degrees Celsius. Friday will be cooling off to more normal temperatures, reaching a high of minus 11.Â
“The nice part about it is this lingering trough is saving us from the colder weather they’re experiencing a little farther west over Saskatchewan.”
