The 2025 campaign has come to a close, with the Seattle Seahawks hoisting their second Lombardi Trophy after beating the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 60 at Levi’s Stadium earlier this month.

Now, we’re onto the offseason where the San Francisco 49ers, who call Levi’s Stadium their home, will look to put together a roster capable of winning it all next year at SoFi Stadium.

One of the first steps in that process for the 49ers will be deciding what to do with their pending free agents, including linebacker Garret Wallow. Let’s analyze the choice Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch will have to make regarding the linebacker’s future in San Francisco.

Garret Wallow 2025 season recap

Wallow missed all of the 2024 season due to a pectoral injury and signed with the Denver Broncos last August. He spent most of the year with the team before they waived after seven games played, and the 49ers claimed him.

In San Francisco, he appeared in four regular season games, mostly as a special teamer. However, due to injured, he started the team’s two playoff games and recorded 12 tackles and a pass defensed in the postseason.

Potential replacements for Garret Wallow

With Fred Warner returning in 2025, San Francisco has a good mix at linebacker that includes Dee Winters, Tatum Bethune and 2025 third-round pick Nick Martin. However, they could use more depth, especially after what happened at the position last year.

That means the 49ers could re-sign Curtis Robinson, Luke Gifford or Eric Kendricks to fill out the depth chart, or they could bring in another free agents like Amen Ogbongbemiga, Troy Reeder or Jack Sanborn.

What contract could Garret Wallow receive as a free agent?

Wallow signed a one-year, $1.1 million deal coming off of a missed year last offseason. He might make a little more than the veteran minimum in 2026, but it won’t be more than $3 million.

Should the 49ers re-sign Garret Wallow?

The top of San Francisco’s linebacker room is set, but they do need depth. It wouldn’t hurt to sign Wallow back a one-year deal without a ton of guaranteed money to compete for a spot on the 53-man roster or practice squad during training camp
