MONTREAL – A 67-year-old man was seriously injured with a blunt object after an altercation late Friday night in downtown Montreal’s Ville-Marie borough.
Police said emergency services were called around 11:30 p.m. after the man was found lying on the sidewalk on Woolf Street near Sainte-Catherine Street East.
Officer Johany Charland, spokesperson for the Montreal Police, said the victim had a serious upper-body injury and that an initial verbal dispute between the man and a suspect escalated, leading the suspect to strike him with a blunt object.

Police said the 67-year-old was conscious and in critical condition when transported to the hospital, but that by Saturday morning, his condition had stabilized, and his life is no longer in danger.
Charland said officers later located and arrested a 56-year-old suspect, who was taken to an investigation centre to be interviewed.
Police said the security perimeter was lifted Saturday morning while investigators continued searching the area for surveillance cameras that may have recorded the assault.
The investigation continues.
