A freezing drizzle advisory has been issued for Toronto and several neighbouring areas.

Environment Canada says periods of freezing drizzle this evening could lead to icy surfaces.

“An area of freezing drizzle has developed across eastern portions of the Golden Horseshoe and may last through parts of this evening,” the advisory reads.

“Roads, walkways, and other surfaces will likely become icy and slippery. Icy surfaces will likely form and could be difficult to detect. There is risk of injury due to slips and falls.”

The advisory is also in effect in York Region and parts of Durham Region.

Poor road conditions in Pickering have resulted in multiple collisions and vehicles in ditches on Highway 7 east of Whites Road, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say.

No injuries have been reported. The highway is closed as a result of the collisions.

In Whitchurch-Stouffville, all Highway 404 northbound lanes at Bloomington Road are closed also due to poor driving conditions that have led to multiple collisions, OPP say.

“Please avoid the area, and avoid driving unless necessary. Expect traffic delays and a prolonged closure,” OPP added.

On Sunday, Toronto could see periods of snow and a daytime high of 1 C, feeling like -6 in the morning with the wind chill.

It will be cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of flurries on Monday and a high of -3 C.
