NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt men’s tennis is set to host Tennessee for a rivalry matchup in the Commodores’ SEC home opener on Monday.

Tomorrow’s contest will be the 94th in total between the two programs in a series that dates back nearly 100 years; 1927 marked their first meeting. Vanderbilt (8-3) looks to end a six match skid to Tennessee (6-5), with the last Commodore win coming in 2018. The black and gold are returning from a 4-3 road loss to No. 10 Mississippi State that came after four hours of back-and-forth blows.

Tennessee makes its way to Nashville also eyeing a bounce back performance; the Volunteers fell to Kentucky 5-2 in Lexington on Saturday. Alejandro Moreno is the lone member of Tennessee to be ranked in singles at No. 58. Jose Garcia leads the Vols in singles wins with seven. In doubles, Tennessee has put forth a steady mix of different doubles pairings. The Volunteers come into Sunday having lost three straight doubles points and have won only five in dual match play. Both teams have the same record against common opponents with a win over Michigan State and a loss to No. 4 Wake Forest.

The Dores will attempt to extend their 10 match home winning streak, the longest stretch for the program since 2018. Senior Nathan Cox continues a career-best run in singles play, moving to 10-0 in dual matches after his win over Mississippi State’s Raphael Vaksmann. Vanderbilt has secured consecutive doubles points for just the second time this season.
