The Canadian Football League’s Toronto Argonauts announced Tuesday the signing of former UCF Knights’ running back Peny Boone.
Boone played one season in Orlando in 2024, rushing 34 times for 208 yards with two touchdowns. He also caught one pass for nine yards, appearing in a total of seven of the Knights’ contests. The bruising back was also the only UCF player to carry the ball without a negative rushing attempt in the 2024 season as Gus Malzahn’s team played to a 4-8 record.

Per CFL.CA, Boone becomes one of three former Knights on active rosters in the CFL. Defensive back Sheldon Arnold II and defensive lineman Shaun Peterson Jr. are both on the Calgary Stampeders roster.
Most recently, Boone spent time at the Carolina Panthers’ rookie minicamp in May, but his involvement with the team did not go beyond that.
The Detroit native began his college career at Maryland, where he spent two seasons and appeared in 14 games as a Terrapin. He finished that chapter of his college days with 58 carries for 258 yards with two touchdowns. He then transferred to Toledo for two seasons with 1,849 rushing yards, 18 rushing touchdowns, and 26 catches for 312 yards and a touchdown. Boone was the MAC Offensive Player of the year in 2023, rushing for 1,400 yards that season with 15 touchdowns. He then briefly transferred to Louisville, but left the Cardinals in the spring to join the Knights for his senior campaign.
Boone will join an Argonauts team that is 2-6 to start the 2025 CFL season. The Argos are back in action on Saturday, August 9 against the Ottawa Redblacks at 3 p.m. ET. That game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network in the United States. Toronto’s roster lists Boone at 6’1″ and 232 pounds.
