U.S. President Donald Trump is revelling in the United States’ gold medal victory over Canada in Olympic men’s hockey.
Following Jack Hughes’ golden goal to defeat Canada 2-1 in OT, Trump was quick to get in contact with the American squad. The 79-year-old President reportedly FaceTimed the team in the dressing room after the medal ceremony to both congratulate and invite Team USA to attend his upcoming State of the Union speech, slated for Tuesday.
TSN’s Ryan Rishaug had the initial report of the Presidential message.

Rishaug went on to say that the Americans have not committed to attending the speech, saying schedules may be hard to line up with NHL action slated to resume on Wednesday.
Outside of FaceTime, Trump has publicly acknowledged the USA’s victory over Canada at the Olympics. He took to Truth Social to talk about the thrilling Olympic victory.
“Congratulations to our great U.S.A. Ice Hockey team. THEY WON THE GOLD. WOW!” The President shared.

While Trump himself hasn’t publicly chirped at Canada yet, the official White House X account has weighed in.
They shared a picture of a bald eagle strangling a Canadian goose while quoting former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s post from last year following Canada’s victory at the 4 Nations Face-Off.

There will be no love lost between Canadian and American hockey fans, as this victory will only intensify the rivalry between the two nations. We will see if the United States can defend their Olympic title when these countries inevitably collide in France for the 2030 Games.
