Did Connor McDavid get injured at the Olympics? There may be evidence that he won’t be 100 per cent when he returns to the Edmonton Oilers later this week.

After suffering a crushing gold medal defeat at the hands of Team USA, McDavid was spotted with what some thought was an injury while in the handshake line. Eagle-eyed fans pointed out what appeared to be two of McDavid’s fingers taped together, suggesting some sort of discomfort.

If he is injured, it has not been reported by Team Canada or the Oilers.

It’s not the best quality of video, but it does appear that McDavid’s middle and ring fingers were stuck together on right hand. The hope is that this is just something minor and that the Oilers captain will be able to return to the NHL lineup sooner rather than later.

Still, the nerves around Oil Country are high, especially with Leon Draisaitl supposedly fighting through a suspected injury throughout the Olympic tournament as well. Losing both players to injury will throw a massive wrench into an Edmonton team that limped into the break earlier this month.

McDavid enjoyed a very productive stint with the Canadian Olympic team, setting a new record with two goals and 13 points through six games. The only thing better would have been returning to the Alberta capital with a gold medal around his neck.

The Oilers are slated to resume their NHL schedule on Wednesday, kicking off a road trip against the Anaheim Ducks. Even if he is healthy, Edmonton may opt to give McDavid a few more days of rest to ensure he isn’t overworked, though that decision has yet to be made.

All anybody can hope is that McDavid is ready to jump back in and help the Oilers solidify their playoff position.
