Daniel Radcliffe has once again weighed in on the long-running speculation surrounding a potential role as Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Amid continued fan casting and online rumors, the actor addressed whether there has ever been any real movement behind the idea.

Daniel Radcliffe again addresses the prospects of playing Wolverine

Daniel Radcliffe again addressed speculation about playing Wolverine in an interview with ComicBook.com. When asked if that was ever a consideration, he stated, “It was not. It was never real. It was a very flattering internet rumor. I was very happy about it, but it was never suggested in any kind of way by anybody with any power to make that happen.”

He added, “And, honestly, you would be stupid not to consider something like that, but if they do other Wolverines, being the person who follows Hugh Jackman is not on my bucket list for anything.” Radcliffe referenced Hugh Jackman, who portrayed Wolverine across multiple films, saying, “For any role of his, particularly the role he has made the most iconic of his career, I am happy not to be doing that and let him keep doing it.”

The remarks came during a promotion for his NBC comedy series The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, which premiered on February 23.

When asked about joining the MCU or DC Universe, Radcliffe said, “I am so out of the loop. I feel like I don’t know what cycle we are on of the Marvel movies, and I have some catching up to do if I ever end up on one of them.” He continued, “But, yes, I am certainly not averse to it. I would never rule anything like that out. But, also, I am not necessarily clamoring to be in it or seeking that.”

Discussing franchises more broadly, Daniel Radcliffe referenced his experience on Harry Potter, stating, “It meant that I got mine out of the way. It was wonderful.” He said the financial stability from the franchise “freed me up to do whatever I wanted next” and added, “I would be very happy to get back on one at some point, but not anytime soon.”
