I had a pan-tastic time at the Manchester Velodrome photographing the Lloyds National Track Cycling Championships. Cycling really lends itself to pan-blurs with lots of slow-shutter-speed pictures. I have included a mixture of colour and monochrome pictures this week, purely because I feel some of them work better in black and white. Pictured above, a slow shutter speed catches the riders passing by in the men’s scratch race qualification.

Riders going away from me in the scratch race final. Shooting at such low shutter speeds means many frames are unusable — using a film camera this would have been expensive but with modern digital cameras frames that I don’t like I can just delete, no harm done.

The centre of the track is full of activity as races go on behind, with lots of riders either preparing to race or warming down post-race.

This could be my favourite of the week: a slow shutter speed in black and white to capture the riders in the women’s scratch race qualification.
