As Canada continues to debate formal Open Banking rules, Toronto-based Loop has moved ahead with its own infrastructure.

The business banking platform today launched direct API connectivity for QuickBooks Online, Xero, and Wave, becoming the first Canadian business banking provider to build dedicated integrations for the country’s three most widely used accounting platforms.

By replacing legacy credential-based data aggregation with direct API infrastructure, Loop says it can offer Canadian SMEs a more stable, secure, and accurate way to sync global banking data into their accounting systems.

Founded in 2015 by Cato Pastoll, Loop provides small and medium-sized businesses with cross-border payments, currency exchange, and treasury management tools. The company raised $6.4 million in 2024 in a round led by Luge Capital and was named a Fintech.ca startup to watch in 2025.

Until now, many Canadian businesses have relied on systems that simulate user logins to pull banking data into accounting platforms. Those connections frequently break when financial institutions update their interfaces, creating reconciliation errors, duplicate transactions, and repeated authentication requests.

Loop’s direct API integrations create a persistent, tokenized connection between its platform and accounting software, eliminating the need to share banking credentials and reducing the risk of downtime. The infrastructure also improves transaction accuracy and supports multi-currency reporting — a critical feature for businesses managing international payments.

“Financial data is the lifeblood of a growing company,” said Pastoll. “When a bank feed breaks, it disrupts month-end close, cash flow visibility, and operational focus. We built this infrastructure so our customers don’t have to worry about whether their financial system will work.”

The launch comes as Canada continues working toward a formal Open Banking framework. While regulatory implementation remains in progress, Loop’s move demonstrates how fintech providers can proactively deliver data portability and interoperability without waiting for mandated standards.

“We treat accounting connectivity as a core product feature, not an afterthought,” Pastoll added. “This is part of our broader mission to remove the administrative friction of running a business.”

The new integrations are available immediately to all Loop customers at no additional cost and can be activated directly within the Loop dashboard.
