If you have ever wanted to whisper, “Are you a work of art, because I can’t stop staring,” now is your moment.
On March 13, the Vancouver Art Gallery teams up with Thursday Dating for Meet Me at the Gallery, an after-hours singles social that replaces doom-scrolling with actual strolling. From 6 P.M. to 9 P.M., the 25+ crowd gets the run of the exhibitions, a live DJ and a pop-up bar, all set inside one of the most photogenic shows in the building.
The backdrop is Jim Lambie: Zobop (Colour-Chrome), a showcase of bold stripes that transforms the rotunda into a spectrum of colour. It is immersive, reflective and, frankly, an ideal place to connect with someone new.
Guests can explore the galleries after hours, linger with their favourite pieces and meet someone whose taste extends beyond algorithm-approved profiles. A DJ will keep things moving, while a pop-up bar from The Lazy Gourmet offers alcoholic and zero-proof options for purchase.
The premise is simple: creative minds, open hearts and no swiping required. Instead of asking about star signs, you can debate colour theory. Instead of ghosting, you can say, “I feel a real connection to this piece… and maybe to you?” If conversation lulls, there is always the classic: “Do you believe in love at first sight, or should I walk through this installation again?”
And if you are the only single in your friend group, take heart. Around 40 per cent of attendees typically arrive solo, which means you will not be the only one pretending to deeply analyze brushstrokes while scanning the room.
They have curated the space. You just have to bring the chemistry.
