ROAD COURSES IN 2025: Joe Gibbs Racing drivers excelled on road courses last season. In 24 combined starts on road courses, the team tallied one win (Bell at Circuit of the Americas), nine top-five finishes, 11 top-10s, and 61 laps led. JGR placed a driver in the top three in each of the season’s six road course races, including runner-up finishes at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City (Bell), Sonoma Raceway (Briscoe), the Chicago Street Course (Gibbs), and Watkins Glen International (Bell).

STAGE WINNER: Hamlin is the only driver with multiple stage wins at the track. He led three laps and won stage two in 2022 and 2024.

ATLANTA RECAP: Hamlin finished 13th in last weekend’s race at EchoPark Speedway. He climbed to 15th in stage one and raced into the top 10 during stage two. During the final stage, Hamlin was solidly inside the top five before a multi-car accident on lap 223 forced the No. 11 team to make multiple pit stops for repairs. Eventually, the team improved the car and Hamlin found his way back up to 13th before the checkered flag.

CHRIS GAYLE: Crew chief Chris Gayle is no stranger to success at Circuit of the Americas. In 2021, Gayle oversaw Kyle Busch’s pole and race-winning performance in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. The next year, he led Ty Gibbs to another pole award at the track. In 2023 and 2024, Gayle led Gibbs to a pair of top-10 finishes in Cup Series competition, including a third-place result in 2024.

BRISCOE AT COTA: Chase Briscoe has five starts at Circuit of the Americas with a best finish of sixth in 2021. In last year’s race at the road course, Briscoe started 18th and finished 14th.

BRISCOE ON ROAD COURSES: In his first season with JGR, Briscoe showed strength on road courses. He recorded two top-five finishes, three top-10s, and 21 laps led in six road course races last year.

ATLANTA RECAP: Briscoe earned a runner-up finish last weekend at EchoPark Speedway. The No. 19 driver led 27 laps throughout the race and lined up fifth for the final overtime restart before maneuvering his way up to second.

JAMES SMALL: 2026 is James Small’s seventh season leading the No. 19 team and his second year with Briscoe behind the wheel. The first five years of his tenure as crew chief were spent with Martin Truex Jr. In 219 races atop the pit box, Small has led his drivers to 11 wins, 61 top-five finishes, 107 top-10s, 13 pole awards, and 4,727 laps led.

BELL AT COTA: Christopher Bell enters this weekend’s race at Circuit of the Americas looking to return to victory lane at the 2.4-mile road course. Last year, he made the pass for the lead with six laps to go and held off late challenges from William Byron and Kyle Busch to secure the win. Overall, Bell has one win and three top-five finishes at the Austin, Texas road course.

ROAD COURSE SUCCESS: Bell has become one of the premiere road racers in the Cup Series. He has wins on three different road courses (Daytona Road Course in 2021, Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL in 2022, and Circuit of the Americas in 2025). Overall, he has posted 12 top-five finishes, 18 top-10s, and 125 laps led in 32 career starts on road courses. In 2025, he earned one win and five top-five finishes in six road course races. Bell also added a NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series victory at Road America in 2019.

ATLANTA RECAP: Bell finished 21st in last weekend’s race at EchoPark Speedway. He found his way to the lead before a caution sent the race to overtime. On the ensuing restart, contact from behind sent Bell hard into the outside wall. The resulting damage left him with a 21st-place finish.

GIBBS AT COTA: Ty Gibbs has finished in the top 10 in two of his three NASCAR Cup Series starts at Circuit of the Americas. In 2023, he finished ninth and followed that up with a third-place result in 2024 after starting on the front row. In three NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series races, he won the pole award in 2022 and posted a best finish of third in 2023.

ECHOPARK RECAP: Gibbs finished 37th after being involved in a multi-car accident on lap 81 last weekend at EchoPark Speedway.

ROAD COURSE SUCCESS: Four of Gibbs’ 12 O’Reilly Series wins have come on road courses, including his first career victory at the Daytona Road Course in February 2021.
