Royal Jubilee has ranked high among a list of the top hospitals in Canada.

The facility, which sits just off Richmond Road in Victoria, placed 20th among 80 Canadian hospitals, according to a recent analysis from American magazine Newsweek.

“Our list highlights leading hospitals around the globe and provides country-specific rankings, so readers can find information tailored to their needs and location,” reads the ranking.

Scores were calculated based on four weighted categories: hospital quality (40 per cent), peer recommendations (30 per cent nationally and 5 per cent internationally), patient experience (18.5 per cent) and patient-reported-outcome-measures implementation (6.5 per cent).

Royal Jubilee, which placed immediately behind Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton and Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa, received a 72.88 per cent score.

Not far behind, Victoria General in View Royal placed 25th, with a 72.75 per cent score.

“Dependable guidance on where to find high-quality medical care is so important,” adds the ranking. “Whether an individual is seeking care for themselves or for a loved one, clear information can help them pursue the best possible health outcomes.”

Respectively, Canada’s top-four hospitals are in the Toronto area: Toronto General Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and North York General Hospital. Montreal General Hospital ranked the fifth best and Vancouver General rated ninth in Canada.

Globally, over 2,500 hospitals from 32 countries were evaluated. Of those, Toronto General Hospital placed second, behind the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, N.Y., and ahead of the Cleveland Clinic.

This is the eighth installment of Newsweek’s hospital ranking.
