Update: At 2:15 p.m., the shelter-in-place advisory was lifted in the Mississauga First Nation area.
Police said people can resume their regular activities.
The shelter-in-place was issued in response to an incident earlier this morning, the Ontario Provincial Police said.
A heavy police presence continues, while the investigation remains ongoing, but there is no threat to public safety, the OPP said.
Anyone with information related to this incident, including dashcam or home security footage, is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
Original story follows.
Residents in an Ontario community have been advised to shelter in place due to an incident possibly involving weapons on Thursday morning.
Officers are responding to an incident involving possibly armed individuals in the residential area of Village Road in Mississauga First Nation, Blind River, the Ontario Provincial Police said.
Mississauga First Nation is about 140 kilometres east of Sault Ste. Marie.
“Residents in the immediate area are urged to shelter-in-place…” the OPP said on X at 8:28 a.m.
People outside are asked to seek shelter immediately in a secure location.
Police asked people inside to remain there and lock all doors and windows. Close curtains or blinds to avoid drawing attention, police said.
“An increased police presence can be expected while officers continue their response and investigation,” the OPP said. “We recognize the significant emotional impact that receiving a shelter-in-place (advisory) can cause. The OPP is taking every precaution necessary to resolve this situation and maintain public safety.”
