Surrey approved 10,508 new dwellings during the first two years of its Housing Action Plan, making for 80.8 per cent of its three-year target in accord with the federal Housing Accelerator Fund.
This surpassed city hall’s second-year target of 8,667 dwellings.
Council heard an update on Feb. 23 from city staff, in a corporate report, which noted that in 2025 Surrey added 4,280 dwellings and cut permit timelines by 75 per cent after being granted $100.7 million by the federal government in 2023.
Last year Surrey invested $35.1 million in housing initiatives and infrastructure, purchasing $18 million in land for future affordable housing.
The City of Surrey has until December 2027 to use the funds, with a 27.8 per cent increase targeted for housing supply that aims to issue an average of 4,333 dwellings to a cumulative total of 13,000 by December 2026.
The report indicates that a final $25.6 million installment is contingent upon meeting that target.
