LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Villanova men’s tennis team fell 7-0 to UC San Diego on Wednesday morning at Northview Tennis Courts.

The Tritons secured the doubles point and carried that momentum into singles play, earning victories on all six courts.

UC San Diego struck first by sweeping all three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 advantage.

At No. 1 doubles, Abhinav Chunduru and Trevor Nguyen defeated Ethan Carr and Cooper Gordon, 6-2. The Tritons followed with a 6-0 win at the No. 2 spot over Kush Anand and Thomas Wakefield before clinching the doubles sweep with a 6-4 victory against Quincy Jones and Jack Sherner at No. 3.

Villanova competed closely in several singles matches despite the final score.

At No. 3 singles, Quincy Jones pushed Trevor Nguyen to three sets before falling 6-4, 7-5. Ethan Carr also forced a decisive third-set tiebreak at the No. 4 position, dropping a tightly contested match 6-0, 6-7 (5-7), 10-4.

Thomas Wakefield battled in a first-set tiebreak at No. 5 singles but ultimately fell 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.

UC San Diego earned straight-set wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 singles to secure the 7-0 result.
