Players with Vancouver’s The Cutting Edges and Seattle Pride Hockey Association will compete for the 2026 NHL Unites Pride Cup in Surrey this weekend, Feb. 28 and March 1.

Three games are scheduled at North Surrey Sport & Ice Complex on Saturday (11:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. start times) and Sunday (3:30 p.m.) during the third annual event, organized to showcase two LGBTQ+ hockey associations in the Pacific Northwest.

The three-game series will see each organization receive a $25,000 donation, according to a news release sent by the National Hockey League, which partners with Pride Tape to hold NHL Unites Pride Cup.

The 2025 event was held in Boston, MA, last February during the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament involving NHL hockey players, following the inaugural Pride Cup in Toronto a year earlier, as part of “a longstanding commitment from the NHL to support LGBTQ+ hockey organizations and to host celebrations of authenticity,” trumpets a news release from the NHL.

In Surrey, more than 40 players will participate alongside special guests including Pride Tape’s Jeff McLean and Dean Petruk, who recently celebrated the venture’s 10th anniversary. They’ll be there to continue their mission of promoting diversity, equality and inclusion through sport.

All games are free to watch at North Surrey Sport & Ice Complex (10950 126A St.).

An Inclusive Coaching Session led by You Can Play coaches is planned Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Founded in the early 1990s, The Cutting Edges is Vancouver’s longstanding LGBTQ+ hockey organization, dedicated to providing a safe, friendly, and inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ players and allies of all skill levels. The NHL Unites Pride Cup “is an opportunity for all of us to celebrate what hockey is all about, community,” says Kyle McCarthy, president.
