Police have charged three people including an Oshawa man after a Good Samaritan was shot trying to help the victims of a home invasion.

York Regional Police say the violent break-in happened on Nov. 4, 2024 shortly before 6:30 p.m. at a home in the area of Paradise Valley Trail and Fairmont Ridge Trail in King, York Regional Police say.

Two armed suspects broke into the home, but police say a man not associated with the address “attended to assist the homeowners.”

The Good Samaritan was confronted by the suspects, and the man was shot before the culprits fled the scene. The 39-year-old male gunshot victim was reportedly taken to a trauma centre with non-life-threatening injuries.

More than a year later, police say three suspects were arrested after raids at homes in Grimsby, Toronto and Oshawa.

York police say Clayton McFarlane, 44, of Oshawa, Darnyl Campbell, 33, of Grimsby, were arrested and charged with multiple offences, including attempt to commit murder. Andrew Dove, 39, of Toronto, has also been charged with fail to comply with release order.

Investigators have released photos of the accused and say they may be behind other similar incidents.
