While awaiting Indian Wells, a tournament he won in 2022, Taylor Fritz took time to chat with fans on his Twitch channel yesterday.
He notably spoke about the privilege of top players being able to choose the time they wish to play.
“If I Face One of Those Players, They Decide”
“The players who truly have an advantage when requesting match times are those highest in the rankings. If Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Novak Djokovic are playing, they’ll get the time slots they want.
Basically, I don’t have priority, so I can’t choose the time if I’m playing on the main court. However, if I’m playing, for example, on court number 2, I can request something like: ‘Don’t schedule me first, but don’t put me in the night session either.’
And that’s the extent of my room for maneuver. Now, as soon as I have to face one of these top players, they decide. If I play against Novak and he wants to play in the evening, I’ll be scheduled in the evening.”
