A man is in hospital fighting for his life following a stabbing in Brampton Saturday afternoon, Peel Regional Police say.

Officers were called shortly after 4 p.m. to a home in the area of McLaughlin Road South and Oakley Boulevard for reports of a stabbing.

Police say the incident took place inside the home, where a man was found suffering from stab wounds and transported to a hospital. He remains in critical condition.

Investigators say the suspect is outstanding and is believed to be known to the victim. No surveillance images or description of the suspect are available at this time.

A large police presence remains in the area, and road closures have been put in place as officers continue their investigation.

Residents and motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
