The family of the Geraldine Rae ‘Gerry’
MacKay of New Glasgow wish to announce her peaceful passing on
February 27, 2026, in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit after
a brief illness. Born in Amherst, she was the daughter of the late
Raymond and Jean (Smith) Weldon. Gerry enrolled at the Aberdeen School
of Nursing and graduated a registered nurse in 1964. She worked
briefly at Moncton Hospital and then at the Aberdeen Hospital in the
Maternity / Pediatric Ward. Gerry enjoyed spending time at the family
cottage at Lochaber Lake with Tom and the rest of her family, where
many cherished memories were made.  She was an avid
painter, tole painter, crafter and was called to the rescue numerous
times to sew for her family. She was Tom’s
“helper” many times at the cottage and at home whether
building the decks or making their bottled chow. Gerry’s
baking was loved by all her family, especially during the holidays.
Tom and Gerry loved their random drives with no set destination or
timing. Gerry was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and
frequent babysitter. She is survived by daughter, Patricia Crocket;
son, Craig; grandchildren, Laura (Seth Burrill); Jamie; Jakob and
Josh; brother-in-law, Bobby (Wendy); one niece; one nephew; and
numerous cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Tom;
son-in-law, Jim. Cremation has taken place and there will be no
visitation. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 3, at 11 am
in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow with Rev.
Charles McPherson officiating. Burial will be held in the spring. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made the North SPCA Nova,
Lochaber Centre or a charity of choice. Her family extends heartfelt
thanks to all the staff of the Aberdeen Hospital who cared for her
during her stay.
