Montreal police are investigating the death of an 18-year-old man who was injured in a residential building in the Ville-Marie borough early Sunday. The death is considered suspicious.
A 911 call was made at about 1:45 a.m. regarding a person injured inside an apartment on St-André St. near Ontario St.
Police found the man unconscious on the floor with an upper-body injury. He was in critical condition when taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.
The man’s injuries were caused by an unknown object and “the circumstances surrounding this event are currently unknown,” said Montreal police spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils.
It is not known yet if the death was a homicide, whether it was caused by a self-inflicted injury or if it was accidental, said police spokesperson Manuel Couture.
He said the caller, who was with the injured man when the 911 call was made, is not considered a suspect.
A security perimeter has been established for investigators and crime scene technicians to analyze the scene and understand the circumstances of the event, Chèvrefils said. They will also review surveillance footage from the area, she said.
The investigation continues and no arrests have been made.
