Perfect for guests of all ages, you’ll uncover through hands-on activities, fascinating displays, and exciting games how we can protect our waterways, water systems, and the aquatic animals that live in them.

Learning Meets Fun

Created by the Sciencenter of Ithaca, New York and supported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Ocean Bound is an exhibit that feels like play.

Great for curious kids, science lovers, and families looking for summer fun, this exhibit focuses on making you feel like a biologist while you learn exactly what goes into keeping Surrey’s watersheds clean and thriving. Cool, educational, and indoors, Ocean Bound is going to be the place to be for those who love to learn!

Bringing The Ocean To Land

What can you expect when you visit the Museum of Surrey’s Ocean Bound exhibit? From piloting a submersible to meeting aquatic species, these immersive and interactive activities will have you enjoying the wonders of watersheds.

Pilot a life-size submersible, make it “rain” on a 3D watershed, and guide water safely to sea!
Meet 70 aquatic species and learn fun facts about each one.
See how pollutants like oil, animal waste, and metals move through storm water and affect our oceans.
Find real-world solutions to watershed challenges– and learn how you can help protect aquatic ecosystem

Ocean Bound has a big focus on how humans affect the health of rivers, streams, and oceans. Supporting climate education and environmental awareness through play and curiosity, this is a special kind of educational entertainment that gives guests a close-up look at the role of humans in aquatic ecosystems and what we can do to keep them healthy.

Ocean Bound wants you to know that we can all make a difference!

Importantly, the exhibit encourages eco-action for all ages. From water conservation to sustainable habits, you can learn how your actions can be all the difference in keeping the planet’s water functioning as it should be.

Including local stories and science about Surrey’s own watersheds means that Ocean Bound is a locally-focused exhibit that has you learning about your own direct impacts on it.

Ocean Bound is open from May 27, 2025 until September 7, 2025 from 9:30am to 5:30pm. There’s no ticket necessary– just head to the Museum and Surrey so you can dive into the world of watersheds!
