LETTER: Keep Canada as far away from war in Iran as possible

Editor,

An open letter to my MP:

Recently, Mr Carney said these words, which I copied down because they are the only sensible reason I’ve heard for increasing our military: “… not being the hostage of others when it comes to our security.” If we are attacked, I understand that we need flexibility to determine our own course of action.

President Trump and his inner consultants have decided to start an illegal war in a foreign country, and Mr. Carney publicly supports it. This morning, at the Newton Recreation Centre, no one I spoke with favoured this foreign invasion.

I am not alone in standing firm for no involvement with the U.S. in this illegal, murderous affair. Experts agree that Iran is not nuclear-ready. War is an ultimate bullying tactic to kill and maim civilians, to cripple “the enemy.”We’ve known this since before the U.S. bombed Japan …. there was, and is, no doubt that ordinary people are the target.

Please do everything you can to keep Canada as far away as possible from this war, from NATO, from selling weapons to the U.S.A. or any country.

A world at war is not a world in which to raise our children and grandchildren.

Let’s continue to encourage negotiations, to build a world of peace and security for all people everywhere. War leads to pain, suffering, and death, no matter who “wins.” Let’s choose life, not death.
