A woman was seriously injured when her legs became trapped under an OC Transpo bus on Elgin Street on Monday afternoon, Ottawa paramedics said.

Paramedics were called to Elgin near Gladstone Avenue around 12:20 p.m.

Paramedic spokesperson Nicolas Guertin said the woman’s legs became trapped under the wheels of the articulated bus near an OC Transpo stop on the west side of the street. Ottawa firefighters helped free her.

The woman sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital in stable condition, Guertin said.

In a brief statement, OC Transpo said it’s aware of the incident and “will be conducting an internal investigation as to the cause.”

Several bus routes that pass the intersection including the 5, 14 and 18 were rerouted following the collision.

Ottawa police said Elgin Street remains closed between Frank Street and Gladstone Avenue, and Frank Street is closed between Elgin and Cartier streets.Â
