A Chinook’s Edge School Division teacher is in the running for a national honour through the National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) Future Goals™ Most Valuable Teacher Program.

Connor Einhorn, who teaches Grades 9–11 Hockey, Science, Psychology, and Chemistry at École H.J. Cody High School in Sylvan Lake, has been selected as the nominee representing the Calgary Flames.

He is one of 31 teachers, one from each NHL market, competing for the 2026 Most Valuable Teacher of the Year title.

Public voting is open now and continues until 11:59 p.m. ET on April 1, and Supporters can vote once per day at NHL.com/MVT.

Hockey-Driven STEM Learning

Einhorn, a teacher for six years, recently launched an innovative STEM program that uses hockey to drive applied learning across science, leadership, and business.

His program creates hands-on experiences designed to build students’ critical thinking, data analysis, and real-world problem-solving skills.

By incorporating hockey into lessons, Einhorn channels students’ passion for the sport into academic engagement.

He also integrates nutrition and wellness education to promote healthy habits and athletic development. 

 

About the Program

The Future Goals™ Most Valuable Teacher Program is part of the NHL and NHLPA’s Future Goals initiative, funded by their joint Industry Growth Fund and partnered with Everfi.

Up to 32 teachers were selected by a judging panel following a public nomination process.

The overall winner will be announced during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 4–8 and will receive a trip for two to attend an NHL event, including airfare, hotel accommodations, and game tickets.

Community members are encouraged to support local educators by voting daily throughout March.
