NEW HAVEN, Conn. – No. 27 Pepperdine men’s tennis is set to continue its long east coast road trip with stops at No. 39 Yale on Wednesday and No. 28 Princeton on Friday.
The Waves split their last two matchups, falling 2-4 to No. 27 Columbia before getting back in the win column with a 5-2 victory over No. 40 Harvard on Sunday afternoon. Despite the win, Pepperdine fell from 20th to 27th in the ITA team rankings that were released on Tuesday morning. Lasse Poertner, who won WCC Singles Player of the Week on Tuesday, is slotted at 95th in the singles rankings, with Aleksa Pisaric ranked 119th in the same category. On the doubles side, Poertner and Pisaric are the lone ranked doubles team for the Waves, coming in at number 83. Gustavo Ribeiro de Almeida also won a weekly award on Tuesday from the WCC, earning Freshman of the Week honors.
Pepperdine will seek to continue its winning ways against Yale, who the Waves have defeated all four times in their previous matchups. 2026 marks the second time in the last three seasons Pepperdine will battle the Bulldogs, having taken down Yale 4-0 in Malibu in 2024. Yale is 39th in the latest ITA rankings, sliding down a baker’s dozen from last week. Vignesh Gogineni is the lone ranked singles player for the Bulldogs (No. 43), and he also features alongside sophomore Edward Liao on the only ranked Yale doubles team (No. 22). The Bulldogs enter Wednesday’s match day with a 9-4 overall record and have decisively won their last two matchups, 7-0 over Penn State and 4-0 over Fairfield. As for Princeton, the Waves have beaten the Tigers in all 17 previous matchups. Princeton also fell in the ITA team rankings, going from 19th to 27th. The Tigers boast one of the best singles players in the country in junior Paul Inchauspe, who is a whopping 25-3 on the season. Princeton has two ranked doubles teams, with Inchauspe pairing with Landon Ardila at number seven, while Sebastian Sec teams up with Aleksandar Mitric at number 87. Princeton is 7-1 in their last eight matches but is 12-4 on the campaign, most recently losing to Middle Tennessee (who Pepperdine will see this Sunday, March 8) by a final of 0-7.
